Who is Maverick Security Services?

I'm the founder and lead consultant at Maverick Security Services. I have been working in Information Security for over 15 years. I started working for the NSA at their National Threat Operations Center doing SOC engineering support and then worked on Offensive Security programs. I left the NSA and worked for Sourcefire & Cisco as a professional services engineer, traveling around the world to help deploy IDS/IPS tools, provide health checks and teaching courses on how to use them. I next moved to Tenable and worked on their Information Security program. I deployed SIEMs, EDRs, Firewall Management, Password Managers, SASE tools, Zero Trust Infrastructure, Mobile Device Management and more. I worked closely with the analyst team there to help build detection rules they needed. I worked with the IT department to make sure our tools would integrate smoothly and not impede business. After six years at Tenable, I joined a cybersecurity startup focused on Attack Surface Management as a subject matter expert and eventually started their IT and Security programs.

Why Start Maverick Security Services?

Maverick Security Services came from my experience working at the cybersecurity start-up. Working as the Director of IT & Security as well as providing Subject Matter Expertise, I felt the work I was doing was important, but such a small organization didn't need a full time employee at their size. When you're a smaller organization, you need to make sure you spend every dollar wisely, and paying for a full time engineer might not be the best choice. But having an engineer and analyst for 5-10 hours a week to make sure your security infrastructure is operating properly, alerts are responded to and tools properly integrated, that would be a much better use of those funds, freeing some up for other programs.
